Search Engine Optimization – What do Search Engine’s like?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the practice of optimizing a website to improve its ranking and results location by online search engines. SEO is a key component to successful Internet Marketing platforms like IgnitionWeb.
The following is a list of good search engine optimization practices. Follow these best practices and you will be rewarded with a higher ranking:

1. Text content, lots of it.

2. Fresh content. Ideally you should establish a schedule to post new pages on regular basis.

3. Small pages, combined with fast server response time. (Although recently Google increased the size of the individual page's content they crawl, there's still a limit. This means that you should split very long pages into smaller ones that are linked together.)

4. Other similar pages linking to the page being optimized.

5. Higher text to html ratio (i.e. more text and less formatting rules).

6. Heading tags – they stand out and, from both a search engine and human visitor perspective, are more likely to contain the topic the page is about, so your keywords should be in there.

7. Hyperlinks – links are the skeleton of the Web and both incoming and outgoing links are valued by the search engines.

8. Use of Title tags in the hyperlinks and the text in and around the hyperlinks. Links are important and so is all of the text related to them.

9. Alt tags for the images. You should also have your keywords there as well.

10. Friendly URLs with the keywords in them.
